“seriously drive by...it is spectacular and i ALWAYS get compliments!    I do get compliments...a lady who is very into gardening herself told me mine is the most visually interesting year-round of any garden on her walking route!  so there."  -Nancy Helmsworth, artist

PHILOSOPHY With every design I strive to:

...make your property more functional.
  • To you , that might include a space to sit in the sun, morning, noon and night, January afternoons and August mornings.
  • It may include a few shade trees to lower your summer air conditioning bills.
  • Perhaps you need a perfectly manicured court for croquet, or a batting cage for your budding ball player.
  • You will most likely need pathways to get you from one place to another.
  • And probably screening from your next door neighbors, who don't really need a direct view of your hot tub...

...make your property more beautiful.

  • The various spaces should relate stylistically and proportionately to your home.
  • The plants should be gorgeous, as well as appropriate to the site so they stay healthy.
  • The winter garden in the northwest should be every bit as attractive as springtime.
  • We can cram your garden full of color, if that's what you love. Or create a soothing subtle native palette with mostly green.
  • The hardscape choices (paving, furniture, walls, ornaments, etc.) should be consistent in style with your home and each other.

...match your gardening expertise (and interest) and budget with the appropriate maintenance level.
  • If you're a passionate gardener who spends every spare moment with your beloved plants, you may deserve to baby along a huge constantly changing flower border with 8-foot delphiniums and the latest $250 yellow peony.
  • You may be a  two income family who intends to hire someone to do the lawn every week and and expects the patio to be party-ready for the weekends.
  • You may be ready to retire from a lifetime of mowing a lawn every week, but must have a small flower bed to tend and can't live without fresh tomatoes in the summer.
  • Perhaps you want to create a very low-maintenance native northwest understory for the Douglas Firs on your property.
